Jack Jones’s Attorney: Patriots CB Had ’No Intention’ of Bringing Guns to Airport

Patriots cornerback Jack Jones pleaded not guilty to multiple weapons charges Tuesday in East Boston Municipal Court.

Jones was arrested Friday for possessing two firearms in his luggage while inside Logan International Airport in Boston. Following his arrest, he was charged with two counts of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure area of an airport, possession of ammunition without a Firearm Identification Card, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity feeding device.

The 25-year-old posted $30,000 cash bail Tuesday and is expected to return to court Aug. 18 for a probable cause hearing, according to ESPN. Rosemary Scapicchio, Jones’s attorney, told reporters that her client did not intend to carry guns inside the airport.

“He had no intention of bringing any guns into Logan Airport that day,” Scapicchio said, per ESPN. “I expect the evidence is going to show that he had no knowledge of what was going on.”

Two counts of Jones’s charges include a mandatory minimum of 2.5 years in prison while the other two counts against him total a mandatory minimum of 18 months. On Monday, James Borghesani, a spokesperson for Suffolk District Attorney Kevin R. Hayden’s office, told The Boston Globe that Jones could face more than 30 years if he is convicted and sentenced consecutively on the charges, though it is rare for judges to do so, per the report.

Jones, a 2022 fourth-round pick by New England, played in 13 games for the Patriots in his rookie season. That year came to a halt in the latter part of December when he was suspended for an “unspecified violation of club rules,” according to ESPN.
