Jack Hughes has been named the new captain of Warrington Wolves.
The back-rower will become the standalone captain after sharing the leadership with former captain Chris Hill last season.
Hill has spent the last five years as the Wire's on-field leader, but will step down to allow Hughes to take the reigns. The 33-year-old is celebrating his tenth year with the club this year.
Hughes, 29, has been at Warrington since 2016 after arriving from Wigan Warriors. The Great Britain international is closing in on 150 appearances for the club.
"It’s a massive honour and something I’m really proud of," he said.
"Obviously, I understand the weight and responsibility that comes with the role and it’s something I’ll take extremely seriously.
"I’ll uphold the highest of standards at all times – any leadership role would require that – but I’m extremely proud.”
Hughes will lead Warrington into the Super League season with the club going in search of their first-ever Grand Final triumph.
By his side will be Greg Inglis, the Australian legend who has come out of retirement to continue his career at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
Robbie Mulhern and Rob Butler have also joined the club for the new season as head coach Steve Price looks to end their Old Trafford agony.
Hughes has played in five major finals during his time with the club, winning one when the Wolves overcame St Helens in the 2019 Challenge Cup Final.
