Jack Hendry Celtic return off the cards as Oostende make permanent deal intentions known

Threadbare Celtic can’t recall Jack Hendry in this window - despite his impressive displays for KV Oostende.

The Scottish champions have brought back a number of their loan players to flesh out their squad with 13 players, Neil Lennon and two other staff currently self-isolating after a Covid-19 outbreak.

Celtic have taken Ross Doohan back from Ross County and Scott Robertson from Gillingham.

Scotland cap Hendry, however, can’t be drafted in because there is no January recall in his loan agreement.

Belgian side KV Oostende made it clear before they signed the classy defender that they wanted a deal for the entire season.

That agreement also suited Hendry as he was keen to get out there for a prolonged spell of first-team football.

It is a blow for Celtic as Hendry has been a standout for Oostende.

They currently have one of the top defensive records in the Belgian top-flight, after almost being relegated last season.

Hendry helped Oostende to seal a shock win over third-placed Charleroi last weekend.

The 25-year-old, who still has another season left on his contract beyond this one, has impressed and Oostende are keen to sign him permanently.

Hendry, however, is already attracting big interest from England and clubs in other top European leagues.
