Jack Harrison sends warning ahead of Leeds United game as Crystal Palace face injury woes

Here is your Leeds United morning digest on Sunday, February 7.

Leeds viewed as 'bargain' investment

The San Francisco 49ers see their investment in Leeds as a "bargain", according to a football finance expert.

The NFL outfit increased their stake in the Whites last month from 15% to 37% following the club's long-awaited promotion back to the Premier League.

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire, of the University of Liverpool, thinks the deal makes perfect sense for both sides.

“I do think it’s great news for Leeds, although it’s a strange number, 37%, very weird, a bit arbitrary,” he told Football Insider.

Marcelo Bielsa on Leeds United's second half improvement

“But the US owners believe that the European football market is hugely undervalued. If you compare it to the situation in the MLS, if you want to set up a new MLS franchise, it’s going to cost you $300m. So the Premier League looks relatively cheap.

“From the San Francisco 49ers point of view, they value Leeds at somewhere between £250m and £260m in total. They think that the club has the ability to be worth substantially more than that, so they feel that they’re getting a bargain.

“They can use their expertise in terms of the commercial aspects of the club to increase Leeds’ revenues.”

Harrison on Leeds' preparation

Leeds star Jack Harrison has warned Crystal Palace that his side are difficult to get repeat results against.

The Whites were beaten 4-1 against Monday night's opponents in the reverse fixture at Selhurst Park in November.

The Yorkshire club will be looking to get back to winning ways at Elland Road following their 2-1 by Everton on Wednesday evening.

Harrison, speaking on the Futbol with Grant Wahl podcast, has sent Palace a warning ahead of the clash.

He said: "I think with Marcelo the amount of analysis work that we do, it's always difficult for teams to repeat results like that against us because as a team we always try to be as prepared as we can going into each game.

"If there's a new system tactically or something like that we'll know about it or we'll be prepared. Even in the second half of when we played against Leicester, the first ten minutes they changed the formation and we were disorganised for a little bit but after reviewing it earlier on in the week we were able to adjust quite quickly once we knew what we were doing.

"Little things like that can help us out to be prepared and prevent results from happening like that again."

Palace's injury problems

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has admitted that he may struggle to fill up his side's bench for their visit to Leeds on Monday.

Hodgson is currently dealing with an injury crisis at the Eagles, with star man Wilfried Zaha ruled out of the Premier League clash.

James McArthur, James McCarthy, Mamadou Sakho, James Tomkins and Jeffrey Schlupp are all also set to miss the trip to Yorkshire.

Wayne Hennessey, Nathan Ferguson and Connor Wickham are all sidelined for the London-based side as well.

"We won't have a full bench of senior players from our 25, no," Hodgson said.

"If we want to fill up the bench it would be players from the under-23s squad tested in order to get up to 20. But, quite frankly, whether I've got 18 or 20 on the bench, that isn't the crucial factor: you can use three. So whether it's three from five or three from seven or eight.

"It's no good I think putting players on the bench just to be there. Taking them up to Leeds unless you've got some serious thoughts as to using them in the game.

"It is a strange situation. From being in a position where we had an awful lot of players available, especially in certain positions, now we are scratching around wondering who could play and fill in for us."
