Jack Harrison eligibility for Leeds United vs Man City and loan rules explained ahead of fixture

Jack Harrison has played a key part in Leeds United's positive start to the season.

The winger netted in Leeds' opening game against Liverpool before teeing up Patrick Bamford's headed winner at Sheffield United last time out and has played every minute of the Whites' three Premier League games so far this season.

Leeds face another tough test on Saturday when they come up against a Manchester City side who will likely still be smarting following their heavy 5-2 defeat to Leicester City on Sunday.

Emotionally, it will no doubt be a day of mixed feelings for Harrison, who has spent the last two seasons on loan with the Whites.

The Stoke-born attacker has racked up 94 appearances in all competitions on loan at Elland Road - but will he be available to face his parent club?

Unfortunately not. In the Premier League, a player on loan from another Premier League club cannot feature against their parent club.

Subject to the loan agreement, however, Harrison could feature for the Whites if they were to play against City in the FA Cup.

That is due to domestic cups having different rules to the Premier League.

So who could replace Harrison?

With Leeds still keen to strengthen on the wing, Marcelo Bielsa is not blessed with a wealth of options in the wide areas.

One option could well be Ian Poveda - a player who knows the Whites' opponents well.

Poveda joined Leeds from Man City earlier this year in the January transfer market, having spent four years at the Etihad.

The former Barcelona youth player joined Man City from Brentford's academy in 2016, featuring once in the EFL Cup during his time at the club.
