Jack Grealish will be summoned to a meeting by Aston Villa after pictures circulated showing him lying on a street in Tenerife.

The 19-year-old midfielder is on holiday with friends on the Spanish island. The pictures were posted on social media by someone who said they had spotted Grealish lying opposite their apartment.

“The club is aware of the photographs of Jack Grealish currently circulating,” Villa said in a statement. “We will be meeting with the player but any action will remain an internal matter. There will be no further comment from the club.”

Grealish, who is eligible to play for England or Republic of Ireland, was warned by Villa’s manager, Tim Sherwood, in April after being pictured inhaling nitrous oxide.

“I explained to him his behaviour can’t be tolerated by the football club, we can’t condone that behaviour,” Sherwood said at the time.

“It doesn’t matter how young he is, he is now in a responsible position as a professional footballer. He’s got to make sure it won’t happen again, he’s assured me it won’t.”

The midfielder made 24 appearances for Villa last season, becoming a regular under Sherwood, and helped them avoid relegation and reach the FA Cup final, which they lost 4-0 to Arsenal.

Grealish’s international future also remains in the air with England courting the player, who has previously represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level.

Meanwhile, Micah Richards is expected to complete a move to Villa within the next 48 hours. The defender, 26, is set for a medical before potentially becoming Sherwood’s first summer signing on a free transfer. Richards is out of contract having been released by Manchester City following a season-long loan spell at Fiorentina.
