Jack Grealish reaches out to Trent Alexander-Arnold after man of the match performance

Trent Alexander-Arnold was back to his goalscoring and creative best on Thursday night, and one goalscoring and creative talent was suitably impressed.

The Liverpool right-back scored a goal and made one as the Reds won in the Premier League for the first time since their 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace pre-Christmas, beating Tottenham 3-1 in north London.

After Spurs saw Son Heung-min's early effort chalked off by VAR, Liverpool grew into the game and took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Sadio Mane's cross was tapped in by Roberto Firmino.

Alexander-Arnold then took centre stage when he fired home in the opening stages of the second period, before Spurs immediately pulled one back through a fine strike from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

Jurgen Klopp's team were much the better side though, and they wrapped up victory when Alexander-Arnold's cross was fired in Mane.

The full-back was given the man of the match award by BT Sport in the closing stages of the game, and his England teammate Grealish was impressed enough to hail his display on his Instagram Story.

Speaking after the match, which Liverpool started without Fabinho before also losing centre-back Joel Matip to injury, Alexander-Arnold said that the Reds had kept the same mentality despite their recent defeats.

"Nothing’s really changed, I think we’re the same team as we always have been, we have the same mentality going into games," he said.

"Really, we’re going into games and we have the expectation on ourselves that we should be winning them.

"That happened today, we were up for the game and everyone was great, no-one put a foot wrong.

"Unbelievable game and it’s always good to get the three points as well."
