Jack Grealish raises over £54k for heroic NHS workers with shirt auction

Jack Grealish has raised over £54,000 auctioning off his shirt from last season's controversial Second City derby.

Aston Villa skipper Grealish netted the only goal of the March 2019 derby at Birmingham, having earlier been assaulted by home supporter Paul Mitchell at St Andrews.

Mitchell was subsequently jailed for his attack and Grealish has now raffled off his No.10 shirt from the game to raise funds for the NHS.

Over 3,500 fans paid £10 a go for a chance to win with all proceeds going to NHS Charities Together in the wake of the coronavirus.

Grealish’s former Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor last month raised £16,872 after holding a raffle for one of his Second City derby shirts.

Elsewhere, Villa defender Tyrone Mings has been showing his support for NHS key workers.

The England international made calls to two England fans working on the frontline against the coronavirus.

Grealish, 24, is wanted by Manchester United this summer in a deal worth up to £70million after shining at Villa Park this season.

He said last week he also likes the No.7 shirt after admiring Cristiano Ronaldo earlier in his career at Manchester United.

Should Grealish move to Old Trafford and take the famous jersey, he would follow in the line of George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham, as well as Ronaldo.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is closely monitoring the situation, with Grealish understood to be a target to fill the right-wing spot currently occupied by Daniel James after scoring nine goals and providing eight assists this campaign.

Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho is United's other priority target, though he is thought to command a fee of at least £100m, which may not be feasible amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The England international has enjoyed another stunning season in the Bundesliga, scoring 14 goals and assisting 16 times in just 23 appearances.
