Jack Grealish details John Terry role in £100m Man City transfer

Manchester City star Jack Grealish has revealed that he spoke to former Chelsea captain John Terry ahead of completing his move to the Etihad Stadium to find out what it is like to play in the Champions League.

Grealish, who stepped off the bench to make his City debut during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Leicester City in the FA Community Shield at Wembley, was attracted to City because of the prospect of playing in Europe.

It was confirmed by Villa chief executive Christian Purslow last week that if a team playing in the Champions League made a move for Grealish then the club would not stand in his way, meaning City were always likely to land the attacking-midfielder.

With the new Champions League campaign getting under way next month, Grealish has now revealed that he spoke with Terry — a former coach at Villa — to see what it is like to listen to the infamous Champions League theme tune as a player.

Speaking at his official unveiling at the Etihad Stadium on Monday evening, Grealish said: I spoke to John Terry at Villa and he said when you’re standing there and hear the anthem playing, there’s nothing better. I can’t wait to be doing that."

It has been a long-term ambition of the England international's to compete in European club football's premier competition.

"It’s been difficult, the Tuesday, Wednesday nights watching the [Champions League] games," Grealish added.

"I believe I can play in these games and there’s nothing better than watching those games.

: "I remember watching City v PSG last year and the standard was outrageous. To be involved would be a dream come true and something I am desperate to do."
