Jack Grealish could lift the Premier League trophy for Man City against Aston Villa

Manchester City's acquisition of Jack Grealish is a big boost to their aspirations of retaining the Premier League title this coming season.

The club confirmed the signing of the 25-year-old from his boyhood club Aston Villa, for a British record £100m transfer fee.

Despite his love for Villa, the lure of playing Champions League football and winning the Premier League was too big to keep Grealish at the club he first joined when he was six years old.

Now all sights look towards August 15, when City travel to Tottenham to begin their title defence.

And should City produce another stellar season and win their fourth title in five seasons, who will Grealish lift the trophy against?

Well, that answer could very well prove to be the club he has just departed, as City play the West Midlands side on the final day of the season at the Etihad Stadium.

Grealish has faced criticism from some Villa supporters that he should have been loyal' and stayed with the club to help them in their push up the table.

Playing against Villa will feel like an odd experience for their now former captain, though winning the title this season and potentially lifting it after playing his former side would go some way to show that he has made the right decision even if it was a difficult one.

Should City have already claimed the title by the last day of the season, Grealish's now-former teammates also might have to give the 25-year-old and his new team a guard of honour.
