Jack Grealish asked why he didn't complete Manchester United transfer last summer

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish joked he didn't need to sign for Manchester United last summer because they already had Bruno Fernandes.

United were keen on a move for Grealish, 25, last year but were put off by Villa's £80 million asking price after they escaped relegation from the Premier League.

Grealish celebrated top-flight survival by penning a new contract which will keep him at his boyhood club until at least 2025, with Villa in no need to cash-in on their prize asset.

The Villa captain was asked point blank why he didn’t sign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, in a video with YouTuber and United fan Harry Pinero.

After the question was asked Grealish chuckled and responded: “You’ve got Bruno anyway.”

Pinero continued his praise for the England international telling him: "You’ve got the filthiest first touch in the Prem."

However, Grealish once again issued a humble response by praising Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne. “That’s not true," he said. "I do some alright touches but you need to put a bit of respect on Bruno and KDB.”

Despite his commitment to Villa the creative midfielder is still admired by figures at Old Trafford although the club acknowledge a priority to strengthen in other areas of the pitch first.

A future move for Grealish is further complicated by the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba's future at the club as well as the £39.1million deal to sign Donny van de Beek last summer.
