Jack Grealish agent responds to Manchester United transfer interest

Jonathan Barnett, the agent of Jack Grealish, has downplayed the likelihood of the player joining Manchester United.

United have been long-term admirers of Grealish and had made groundwork early in 2020 ahead of making a move last summer but Aston Villa's Premier League survival - to which the 25-year-old was vital - lessened their need to sell and significantly raised their asking price. Grealish would later sign a new contract with Villa until 2025.

United opted to bring in Donny van de Beek from Ajax for £35million, a move that hasn't gone to plan so far and has led to speculation that the club could reignite their interest in the Villa captain.

However, in an interview with SNTV, as relayed by the Birmingham Mail, Barnett has dismissed Old Trafford as a likely destination and has admitted Grealish may stay in Birmingham.

"The truth is we don't know (what will happen)," he said. "There are many clubs (interested) and I wouldn't put Manchester United at the top of that (list).

"But he could stay. He could stay as well so it's a conversation the club, Aston Villa, will have with Jack and ourselves then we'll see where we go."

United are expected to have a busy transfer window this summer, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and football director John Murtough looking to finally complete the squad overhaul.

However, with a centre-back, defensive-midfielder and right-winger bigger priorities, Grealish is not understood to be a current target.
