Jacob Fearnley vs Cameron Norrie LIVE: French Open scores and updates after Jack Draper cruises through

Jacob Fearnley and Cameron Norrie meet in the French Open third round - (REUTERS)

Jack Draper stormed into the second week of the French Open for the first time as he impressively downed the teenager Joao Fonseca in straight-sets to reach the fourth round in Roland Garros.

In a meeting of two of the sport’s rising stars, Draper was dominant from the start and clinical throughout, defeating the 18-year-old from Brazil 6-2 6-4 6-2. British No 1 Draper had not won a match at the French Open before this week, but the fifth seed’s performances are getting better and better on the Paris clay and this was his most complete display yet.

Draper’s victory means there will be two British men in the last-16 of a grand slam for the first time since 2017, with Cameron Norrie joining him by beating Jacob Fearnley 6-3 7-6 6-2. While Fearnley was making his first appearance at Roland Garros, Norrie is enjoying an improved run of form after slipping down the rankings.

The winner could play Novak Djokovic, who faces qualifier Filip Misolic in the night session. On the women’s side, second seed Coco Gauff looks to continue her run against Marie Bouzkova, while third seed Jessica Pegula came from a set down to defeat Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova. Madison Keys takes on Sofia Kenin in an all-American battle.

Jack Draper's next opponent

15:48 , Jamie Braidwood

Jack Draper is yet to play a seed at the French Open, and he won’t have to in the last-16 either.

He will face either the maverick Alexander Bublik or the Portuguese qualifier Henrique Rocha next.

Both players pulled off big upsets from two sets down in the last round, with Bublik beating ninth seed Alex de Minaur and Rocha stunning Jakub Mensik.

Bublik won the first set 7-5 and leads 4-0 in the second.

Jack Draper: The conditions suited me today

15:44 , Jamie Braidwood

Draper is being interviewed by Alize Cornet on Suzanne-Lenglen court.

“I knew it was going to be a really tough match. Joao has come onto the tour and caught the attention of everyone. He’s an incredible young player. Today, maybe a bit of experience. I’ve played more grand slams than him. He’s going to have an incredible future.

“The first set was key. I got on top of him. I served well, I played my forehand well. Mentally a good performance from me. Happy to be in the second week here and hopefully more to come.

“My first two rounds I played at night time. Playing Gael, I couldn’t hit it past him. It was so cold. Today the ball was getting up more and the conditions suited me better with the faster court.”

Jack Draper vs Joao Fonseca

13:46 , Jamie Braidwood

Draper had not won a match at the French Open until this week but now he is just one win away from the last-16 of Roland Garros.

He is looking better on the clay with each passing match, and had to dig deep to overcome Gael Monfils in four sets in the previous round.

Monfils, 38, is 20 years older than Fonseca, so it’s a completely different challenge for Draper today. The Brazilian is into the third round of a grand slam for the first time.

Draper wins the toss and elects to receive.

13:42 , Jamie Braidwood

Here we go! The players are being announced onto court and Draper and Fonseca will be stepping out onto Court Suzanne-Lenglen in the new few minutes.

Here’s what Fonseca had to say about the British No 1 and fifth seed, as well as the atmosphere generated by his Brazilian supporters.

“I came from Brazil. I mean, I went to a lot of matches, football matches. It's loud. Brazilian people are loud also.

“Jack's a great guy. I always pass to him and he talks to me. Just super nice.”

Jack Draper on facing rising starJaoa Fonseca: 'I'm going to be playing him a lot'

13:38 , Jamie Braidwood

“I’m looking forward to playing him, he’s obviously a special player.

“I think I’m going to be playing him a lot. I think we’ll be seeing him at the back end of draws and right at the top of the game.

“Everyone can see his potential and the way he plays, some of the stuff he comes out with is very powerful, very dynamic, very explosive and I think that’s why it draws a lot of people to watch him. The huge fan base he brings from Brazil is great for the sport.

“I’ll expect him to know my game now, he’s played some really good stuff and kept rising up the rankings so it will be a tough challenge, especially in a grand slam on the clay.

“I’ll know what to expect and not have any surprises but it will be a tough challenge for sure.”

Amelie Mauresmo defends French Open scheduling as women feel ‘not worthy’

13:30 , Jamie Braidwood

Amelie Mauresmo has defended the French Open's policy of prioritising men's matches over women's in its prestigious night sessions.

Roland Garros chiefs are once again under fire for snubbing women in the prime-time slot under the lights on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

All six night sessions at Roland Garros this year have been men's matches - including British number one Jack Draper's four-set, three-hour win over Frenchman Gael Monfils on Thursday night.

There have been only four matches from the women's draw held in the slot since it was introduced in 2021.

Pressed as to whether the message coming across was that women are "not worthy", Mauresmo said: "That's not what we're saying. I have to stop you right there.

"For me, the message is not changing, and it has never been that the girls are not worthy to play at night. It's never been this. I will not accept that you carry this message. That's really clear to me."

GAME, SET AND MATCH!

13:28 , Jamie Braidwood

A remarkable performance from Jannik Sinner, and an astonishing result over Jiri Lehecka.

The World No 1 drops just three games on his way to a 6-0 6-1 6-2 steam-roller against the young Czech, who can also smile as he shakes hands with Sinner at the net.

The Italian is on a mission at Roland Garros. He plays Andrey Rublev in the fourth round.

Sinner gets it down in one hour and 35 minutes - that means Jack Draper and Joao Fonseca will be on court next.
