Queen’s continues today with a blockbuster day of first-round matches as the top three seeds all get their campaigns underway.
Top seed Carlos Alcaraz, fresh off winning his fifth grand slam title at the French Open two weeks, opened his grass-court account for the year against lucky loser Adam Walton after his scheduled opponent, fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, withdrew with illness.
Alcaraz had to save set points in the second set against a spirited opponent but regrouped to force a tie-break, which he won convincingly to book his place in the second round, 6-4, 7-6(4).
He followed home favourite and second seed Jack Draper, who made light work of the unconventional, crafty Jenson Brooksby on the Andy Murray Arena, winning 6-3, 6-1.
Fifth seed Alex de Minaur suffered a shock straight-sets defeat to Jiri Lehecka first up on the Andy Murray Arena while third seed Taylor Fritz, fresh off winning a maiden grass-court title in Stuttgart last week, will be bidding to avoid another upset as he takes on tricky Frenchman Corentin Moutet last on the show court.

'I feel at home' at Queen's - Carlos Alcaraz
17:19 , Flo CliffordLet’s hear from our latest winner.
“Good to be back here in London, back on the grass,” Alcaraz says.
There’s good-natured laughter as he mixes up two famous British tournaments... “I have to say thank you for the really warm welcome I've had in Wimbledon - sorry London! Sorry! In London! I feel at home, I feel loved, so thank you. First match on grass, [it’s] never easy to get used to the competition, get used to the grass.
“He has played a few matches already on grass so I think he's more experienced this year on grass. I'm really happy with the performance today, I feel great, a lot of things to improve and a lot of things to work on to feel more comfortable but in general I'm happy to get through.
“I had some days off and I made the most of it. To reset my mind a bit, to rest up. Then my mind is straight here. After the French Open it’s just a week to switch to grass so I don’t have too much time. I would’ve liked to have more time to relax after the French. I’ve had a few days back home and a few days to get back here.”
Carlos Alcaraz beats Adam Walton 6-4, 7-6(4)
17:09 , Flo CliffordWalton is given a rousing send-off by an appreciative crowd. A reminder that Walton lost in qualifying and only made it into today’s encounter after Alejandro Davidovich Fokina withdrew with illness. He certainly made a good fist of it.
Alcaraz asks how many S’s there are in ‘grass’, before writing ‘Grass season here we go!’ on the camera lens.
GAME, SET AND MATCH! Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 7-6(4) Adam Walton
17:08 , Flo CliffordA forehand winner - what else! - seals the match.
Walton acquitted himself well, but just didn’t quite have enough to overcome a superb, clinical top seed. Less flashy than he often plays, but he got the job done.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-6 (6-4) Adam Walton
17:06 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz gets the breakthrough as Walton, from the net, plays a volley straight back to him, allowing the Spaniard to blast a passing shot beyond him into the open court.
The Aussie hits into the net, and Alcaraz has two match points.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-6 (3-3) Adam Walton
17:03 , Flo CliffordOn serve at the change of ends, as Walton gets onto the outside of the ball on the return and thumps long.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-6 (2-1) Adam Walton*
17:01 , Flo CliffordWalton wins his opening service point, doing well to redirect the Spaniard around the court.
The Aussie is probably only too aware that the last tiebreak Alcaraz played was that absolute blinder to win the French Open final, nine days ago.
Going on serve so far.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 6-6 Adam Walton*
17:00 , Flo CliffordNo signs of pressure getting to Alcaraz now as he gets to a 30-0 lead.
But Walton does well to latch onto a wide serve and Alcaraz can’t plant the volley in return.
A lovely wide serve-drop shot combo brings up game point, and he eanrs himself a tie-break with a sweet cross-court backhand volley.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 5-6 Adam Walton
16:56 , Flo CliffordWalton stands firm and holds to 30. Tie-break incoming?
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 5-5 Adam Walton*
16:54 , Flo CliffordHow will Walton respond after that disappointment?
He double faults for 15-15.
Alcaraz latches onto a second serve and blasts a forehand down the line. Sublime.
Walton responds with a booming serve. 30-30.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 5-5 Adam Walton*
16:52 , Flo CliffordOh, gutting for Walton. His return drifts long and we’re at deuce.
Another ace by the Spaniard, and a booming serve Walton sends into the ace, and that’s four straight points and the hold for the top seed.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-5 Adam Walton
16:51 , Flo CliffordA huge serve out wide saves one.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-5 Adam Walton
16:50 , Flo CliffordGreat return by Walton, and the Aussie has two set points!
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-5 Adam Walton
16:49 , Flo CliffordBig ol’ serve by Alcaraz to start.
But Walton fires back with a great forehand return, which Alcaraz thumps into the tape. Is the top seed feeling some pressure?
Looks like it, as he double faults for 15-30...
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-5 Adam Walton
16:46 , Flo CliffordNervy start to this game by Walton as he takes a return early and knocks it into the net.
The Aussie fist pumps as Alcaraz goes long on the next point, and fires in an overhead that justttt about makes it in.
A beefy serve and a delightful winner down the line, curving around the net post to clip the paint, and Walton holds!
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 4-4 Adam Walton*
16:43 , Flo CliffordWalton can’t get a grip on a second serve, sending it sailing long, and a neat serve and volley seals another businesslike hold by the top seed.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 3-4 Adam Walton
16:40 , Flo CliffordWalton holds, a less difficult service game for the Australian after a couple of hard-fought ones. He’s certainly acquitting himself well out there today, the world No 86.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 3-3 Adam Walton*
16:38 , Flo CliffordWhat a point! Walton drops shots Alcaraz, the top seed sends one cross-court that just clips the line, and the Aussie races to dig it out... and Alcaraz, sprinting back down the court to make it, sends a tweener into the net!
Both players seemed to enjoy that one. The crowd certainly did.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 3-3 Adam Walton*
16:35 , Flo CliffordHow’s this for a point! Walton races back to dig out a lob, manages to send it back - and somehow Alcaraz loses the point, blasting wide!
But Walton goes long on the next rally and Alcaraz holds to 15.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 2-3 Adam Walton
16:32 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz races to dig out a Walton volley and lets fly what should be a cross-court winner - but it clips the tape and bounces out.
Walton charges forward and has the Spaniard on the run, knocking in a deft drop shot. He hasn’t been afraid to move up the court today, even when it hasn’t always worked out... like now, as he hits the net on another attempt.
Alcaraz sends back a booming serve but Walton is on top of it, charging forward again, and a difficult volley seals the hold. He keeps the scoreboard pressure on.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 2-2 Adam Walton*
16:29 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz seals an efficient hold to love.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 1-2 Adam Walton
16:25 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz plants one wide and then into the net and Walton holds, no doubt with a sigh of relief.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 1-1 Adam Walton*
16:24 , Flo CliffordWalton rattles through some strong serves before a double fault halts his momentum.
Deep in a rally he aims for the ball in behind Alcaraz, but chips into the net.
And a laser-beam of a forehand by Alcaraz brings up deuce.
Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 1-1 Adam Walton*
16:20 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz goes up a gear; it’s been a clinically efficient match by the top seed so far.
He opts for the tried-and-tested kick serve out wide and second strike blasted into the far corner, with great success - but then two back-to-back double faults let Walton in at 40-30.
A solid first serve rights the ship, however.
*Carlos Alcaraz 6-4, 0-1 Adam Walton
16:17 , Flo CliffordBright start by Walton. He leaps for an overhead smash and Alcaraz can only send the awkward ball into the net.
The top seed sends his return from a powerful serve sailing wide, and that’s an excellent hold to love for the Australian.
GAME AND FIRST SET! Carlos Alcaraz 6-4 Adam Walton*
16:13 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz looses his footing slightly at the baseline and nets for 0-15.
But some powerful serving secures a routine hold, and the set.
*Carlos Alcaraz 5-4 Adam Walton
16:09 , Flo CliffordWalton stays cool at the net, and he’s rewarded for Alcaraz going cross-court instead of down the line, staying firm to plant a volley beyond his reach. Advantage Walton.
And Alcaraz overcooks the return! An important hold, for Walton’s confidence, at least.
Carlos Alcaraz 5-3 Adam Walton*
16:07 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz earns another set point with a chip-and-charge, coming up to the net to blast the ball into the open court.
But back to deuce we go, as the Spaniard nets.
Carlos Alcaraz 5-3 Adam Walton*
16:06 , Flo CliffordA thumping return brings up set point for the top seed.
But he can’t control it on the next rally and we’re back to deuce.
Carlos Alcaraz 5-3 Adam Walton*
16:05 , Flo CliffordWalton double faults to give Alcaraz a 0-30 lead, but a belter of an serve ace gets him back into this one.
He gets to 40-30 with another big serve, but as Walton gets dragged into a rally, there’s nothing he can do as Alcaraz scurries around the ball and whips a forehand down the line for deuce.
Carlos Alcaraz 5-3 Adam Walton*
16:02 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz looks to motor through this game after winning that mammoth one.
He moves up the court and, as he has done throughout this match, comes out on top from the net, as Walton hits the tape under pressure.
A lovely cross-court return by Walton indicates the Aussie isn’t going anywhere, though.
But there’s not much he can do about a pair of big serves. An efficient hold by the top seed.
*Carlos Alcaraz 4-3 Adam Walton
15:57 , Flo CliffordToo good from Alcaraz as he blasts a return beyond Walton’s reach.
He gives him a weak second serve... and as the Spaniard ventures up the court, Walton cracks under pressure, thumping into the net.
Carlos Alcaraz 3-3 Adam Walton*
15:55 , Flo CliffordA Walton attempt at a routine forehand down the line goes thumping into the net. He’ll be disappointed with that. The pressure is on.
Alcaraz comes to the net, trying to finish this off, but angles his volley all wrong and hits wide. Walton is hanging on by a thread here.
Carlos Alcaraz 3-3 Adam Walton*
15:54 , Flo CliffordAn ace brings up game point for Walton... but Alcaraz fights back in a rally, blasting in another cross-court forehand that the Aussie can’t get to.
Another ace out wide gives Walton another opportunity to get out of this hole. And he can’t take it! He dominates the rally from the baseline, but can’t seal the deal, instead coming late to a drop shot and knocking into the net.
Carlos Alcaraz 3-3 Adam Walton*
15:52 , Flo CliffordWith Alcaraz coming to the net, he leaves the court open behind him, and Walton plants a sublime passing shot beyond the Spaniard for advantage.
But he’s dragged back to deuce as Alcaraz dances his way around the ball before unleashing that dreaded forehand.
A double fault gives Alcaraz a first break point opportunity... but he thumps the ball long, gesticulating to himself how that shot should have gone.
Carlos Alcaraz 3-3 Adam Walton*
15:49 , Flo CliffordWalton gets into a baseline exchange that the Spaniard dominates. A hefty Alcaraz forehand looks to skim the baseline - but it’s out!
The Spaniard is finding his range now, chopping in a slice volley, drawing Walton in, before lobbing the Aussie. He can only watch defeatedly as it goes sailing over his head.
But Walton gets one back, racing to an Alcaraz volley before planting a perfect drop shot cross-court.
He’s playing very well - but as Alcaraz plays a sweet drop shot, we’re at deuce, and the first pressure on the Walton serve.
Carlos Alcaraz 3-3 Adam Walton*
15:45 , Flo CliffordAlcaraz brings in some variety, moving up the court, and on BBC commentary, Annabel Croft wonders whether he’s using this tournament as a trial run for how he’ll play at Wimbledon.
A blinder of an ace brings up 40-0, and a sweet forehand winner seals a hold to love.
*Carlos Alcaraz 2-3 Adam Walton
15:41 , Flo CliffordWalton is having an excellent day at the office so far. He does well to pin Alcaraz behind the baseline, pushing him around the court, before finishing off the point with an overhead smash.
A booming serve seals a hold to 15.
Carlos Alcaraz 2-2 Adam Walton*
15:38 , Flo CliffordWalton doesn’t look overawed by facing a five-time grand slam champion, and on a much bigger court than he normally plays (the Australian tends to play on the lower-tier circuit).
Alcaraz tries to unload the forehand but clatters into the net. A huge body serve brings him to 30-15... but Walton goes toe-to-toe with the Spaniard in a rally, and Alcaraz nets. The Aussie is looking good on the grass.
He hits a second serve long, though, and Alcaraz hits a magical high backhand volley, back to the net and racquet way over his head, which Walton hammers cross-court - and wide!
*Carlos Alcaraz 1-2 Adam Walton
15:33 , Flo CliffordWalton looks on course for an unbothered hold to love, but cuts a low forehand into the net.
Alcaraz unleashes the trademark forehand and Walton sends it long.
But the Spaniard gets unlucky with a net cord, the ball dribbling back onto his side of the net, and Walton holds to 30.
Carlos Alcaraz 1-1 Adam Walton*
15:31 , Flo CliffordThe pair trade holds to get things underway.
Up next...
15:21 , Flo CliffordJack Draper departs, the crowd head off for some more water/sun cream/booze, and it’s nearly time for our next match on the Andy Murray Arena.
Carlos Alcaraz, champion in 2023, will take on Australian lucky loser Adam Walton after his original opponent, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, withdrew with illness.
'No place I'd rather be' - Jack Draper
15:16 , Flo CliffordLet’s hear from Jack Draper, who’s asked how it feels being back at Queen’s.
“It feels amazing, there’s no place I’d rather be,” he says. “We travel the world playing tennis, never get to come home or spend much time with my family but to be on this court in front of you guys, my people, my family, thank you.
“It’s tricky coming onto the grass after clay, to adapt, I’m hitting the ball a bit late. The more matches and time I have on practice courts I’ll get better and better and more confident in my tennis. It’s definitely a surface I really enjoy playing on and obviously a win helped as well.”
He gets a big cheer from the crowd as the interviewer mentions his rise over the last year, from outside the top 30 to the world No 6 (this week) and the second seed. “So proud,” he says. “Coming back here a year later, I think it’s a testament to the hard work we’ve put in, me and my team, and all the people who have supported me to be a better player and person.”
“Can’t get rid of this guy!” he jokes about Andy Murray, as the interviewer brings up the name of the arena. “Andy is an unbelievable guy, someone I'm incredibly inspired by and always looked up to. I remember coming here when I was younger and watching him win these tournaments. He’s an incredible person to get to know, I miss him on the tour, but I hope I get to see him around. Thank you Andy, this court deserves to be named after you for sure.”
Jack Draper beats Jenson Brooksby 6-3, 6-1
15:09 , Flo Clifford“Good to be home!” Draper signs the camera lens. Of course he is a Londoner, so this will feel a special tournament for him.
Jack Draper beats Jenson Brooksby 6-3, 6-1
15:08 , Flo CliffordThe pair share a nice hug at the net; when they met at Indian Wells earlier this year, Draper signed the camera with “good to have a great player back” as Brooksby made his comeback from wrist surgeries.
The American was simply outclassed today, however, and his serve requires a lot of work.
But it’s Draper who books his place in the second round, where he’ll face Alexei Popyrin.
GAME, SET AND MATCH! Jack Draper 6-3, 6-1 Jenson Brooksby
15:06 , Flo CliffordSo, Draper serves for the match. A big serve is a good way to start.
Brooksby, back to the wall, tries something different with a crafty drop shot; Draper sprints for the pick-up but doesn’t quite get the height to get it over the net.
Brooksby does well to get a wide serve back into play, and Draper hits a volley into the net for 30-30!
But a fine serve down the T brings up match point - and an ace seals the deal!
BREAK! *Jack Draper 6-3, 5-1 Jenson Brooksby
15:03 , Flo CliffordTwo backhands into the net by Brooksby give Draper another opening on the American’s serve.
The second seed whacks a backhand long, though, for 30-30.
But now Brooksby jumps at the ball, gets his angle wrong, and swipes wide, and Draper has a shot at a double break - and a tame forehand into the net by the American hands it over!
Jack Draper 6-3, 4-1 Jenson Brooksby*
14:58 , Flo CliffordDraper looks to be heading for a love hold but a loose forehand brings an end to that. He wraps up the game efficiently though with an unreturnable serve, and Brooksby lets out a roar of frustration.
After that lengthy game on Brooksby’s serve, that’s a great hold by Draper, flipping the pressure immediately back onto his opponent.
*Jack Draper 6-3, 3-1 Jenson Brooksby
14:55 , Flo CliffordBrooksby draws Draper into a rally and, with the second seed racing from corner to corner, eventually draws the error.
A great serve down the T seals a vital hold.
Jack Draper 6-3, 3-0 Jenson Brooksby*
14:55 , Flo CliffordBack and forth we go as Brooksby tries to get out of this game. A crunching Draper forehand gives him another chance to break, but a much better serve means we’re back to deuce.
But Draper moves up the court and lets fly a sweet topspin forehand that dips just in time to catch the baseline.
Brooksby saves another break point with a great net approach shot, into the open court; then can’t take a game point of his own as he hits the net.
Jack Draper 6-3, 3-0 Jenson Brooksby*
14:51 , Flo CliffordPlay has resumed on Andy Murray Arena after that brief delay.
Draper starts brightly, covering the court well before a brilliant down-the-line winner.
Brooksby sends a couple of moonballs Draper’s way before getting his angle wrong and thumping a forehand into the tape. 30-30.
Draper tries a similar backhand down the line again but overcooks it, trailing wide.
But a fine second serve return, the ball bouncing right into the Brit’s strike zone, gets him to deuce.
Elsewhere at Queen's
14:48 , Flo CliffordWhile we wait for the medical issue to be attended to, an update from the other courts...
Whoever wins this Draper-Brooksby clash with face Australian Alexei Popyrin next, after he beat compatriot Aleksandar Vukic 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 on court five.
And Dan Evans will face another American in the second round after beating Frances Tiafoe in round one, after Brandon Nakashima overpowered Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard 6-7, 7-6, 6-4.
Jack Draper 6-3, 3-0 Jenson Brooksby*
14:44 , Flo CliffordBrooksby makes it 30-0 with some stronger serving before a break in play for someone who is unwell, possibly due to the heat, to be attended to in the stands.
Jack Draper 6-3, 3-0 Jenson Brooksby*
14:39 , Flo CliffordA chance for Brooksby to apply some pressure now as Draper’s serve falters for 0-30... but a swerving ace down the centre, at 130mph, gets him back on track.
Brooksby gets tight on the backhand and swipes it wide.
A pair of aces seal the hold. Serving yips, what yips?
BREAK! *Jack Draper 6-3, 2-0 Jenson Brooksby
14:36 , Flo CliffordTrouble for Brooksby as Draper attacks his second serve. A lovely forehand takes Brooksby by surprise and the American digs it out, but only into the net.
Brooksby then gets rather unlucky as Draper’s ball clips over the tape, and the American blasts his cross-court attempt wide to go 30-40 down.
The second seed has Brooksby on the defensive, blasting returns from one corner of the court to the other, and as Brooksby digs out the ball at the baseline he lobs it long. First blood Draper in this set.
Jack Draper 6-3, 1-0 Jenson Brooksby*
14:31 , Flo CliffordDraper gets this set off to a bad start with a double fault, but combines his usual power with a nice drop shot that Brooksby does well to pick up - but sends wide.
Some crunching serves wrap up an ultimately straightforward hold.
Elsewhere at Queen's
14:30 , Flo CliffordOver on Court One, the huge Frenchman Giovanni Mpetschi Perricard and Brandon Nakashima are locked in a tight third set, Nakashima leading 4-3 after the first two went to tiebreaks. The winner of that one will play Dan Evans in the second round.
GAME AND FIRST SET! *Jack Draper 6-3 Jenson Brooksby
14:26 , Flo CliffordBrooksby earns himself another chance with a better serve, but it’s back to deuce as he hits the net.
The American is dragged out wide and can’t keep another ball in play, giving Draper another chance to close out this first set.
And he gets it, unloading that blistering forehand and planting it into the corner!
Jack Draper 5-3 Jenson Brooksby*
14:24 , Flo CliffordDraper attacks a second serve with a lovely cross-court return for a 0-15 lead against serve.
Another tidy return down the line puts him in an ideal position.
Brooksby’s first-serve percentage is way down at 59% - but he’s given a helping hand as Draper gets a little too eager on another second serve, sending it almost beyond the doubles tramlines.
Another forehand clips the tape en route to sailing long, and Brooksby gets to 30-30. But the second seed stays patient in a longer rally, upping the pressure, and Brooksby falters. Set point Draper... it’s saved by a fine serve and volley. Deuce.
Jack Draper 5-3 Jenson Brooksby*
14:20 , Flo CliffordA smart body serve by Draper to open this game. The second seed looks like he’s starting to warm up now, planting a forehand volley down the line.
An ace and a hefty second serve, that Brooksby can only thump into the tape, seal a love hold.
The American will serve to stay in this set.
BREAK! *Jack Draper 4-3 Jenson Brooksby
14:16 , Flo CliffordBrooksby drifts long and Draper has a second chance to break... and the American fires a backhand into the net!
Jack Draper 3-3 Jenson Brooksby*
14:15 , Flo CliffordBrooksby plays a lovely slice volley but soon finds himself in a spot of bother at 30-30 on serve.
Draper fails to latch onto two weak second serves - the second just 69mph - and blasts long on the forehand, again.
But he drags the American to deuce, and there’s a chance to punish the serve! Cheers erupt from the crowd as Brooksby fails to put away an overhead, dumping it into the tape.
An ace gets him back to deuce.
Jack Draper 3-3 Jenson Brooksby*
14:09 , Flo CliffordBrooksby’s pace, taking the ball so early, is causing Draper problems. He gets on the front foot in a rally and the Brit shunts a backhand wide for 30-30.
Two huge serves, including an ace kissing the line, get the second seed out of trouble.
*Jack Draper 2-3 Jenson Brooksby
14:06 , Flo CliffordDraper puts some pressure on the Brooksby serve, but the American is looking pretty unflappable so far. He’s manoeuvred around the court but, with acres of open space, Draper blasts a volley wide and, carrying too much momentum, ends up in the net!
Another couple of errors from Draper, who has been consistently going for power and not quite getting the accuracy, seal the game.
Jack Draper 2-2 Jenson Brooksby*
14:02 , Flo CliffordA first double fault of the match by Draper opens this game, but the second seed quickly gets on top of Brooksby, dominating proceedings at the net before thumping a forehand volley cross-court.
An unreturnable serve seals a much better hold from the Brit. On serve in this first set.
*Jack Draper 1-2 Jenson Brooksby
13:58 , Flo CliffordBrooksby sends Draper all over the court before walloping a forehand into the corner, then plays a deft drop shot to demonstrate his range.
Draper overcooks a forehand and gets unlucky with a net cord as Brooksby seals a hold to love. He heads to his chair fist pumping in the direction of his box. A good start from the American, showing signs of his promise.
Jack Draper 1-1 Jenson Brooksby*
13:54 , Luke BakerThe definition of an inopportune start from Draper as he double faults on the opening point. Does land a first serve in after that and crunching forehand gets him on the board, although Brooksby came to the net and almost fished out a low volley.
Draper shows his power with a swinging ace down the ‘T’ to bring up game point but another double fault and it’s deuce. A bit of rust still to shake off for the Brit here.
Eventually seals a ragged hold as Brooksby goes long before Draper drives a forehand deep into the back corner that his opponent can’t return.
*Jack Draper 0-1 Jenson Brooksby
13:50 , Luke BakerBrooksby to serve first with an unusual, swinging service action where the racket starts horizontally behind his head. It looks awkward for his opponents.
Good opening service game from the American as he comfortably holds to 15. How will Jack Draper look in his first match of the week?
Jack Draper v Jenson Brooksby
13:46 , Luke BakerBrooksby is an interesting story. The 24-year-old American was as high as 33 in the world back in 2022.
He’s currently at No 151 but is trying to climb back up the rankings after wrist surgeries and an anti-doping suspension for three missed tests
He’s got an explosive, powerful game but also has great touch around the court and isn’t afraid to come forward. He has proven in the past he can hang with the top players so Draper will need to be on his game.
He also admitted last December that he has been diagnosed as severely autistic and was non-verbal until the age of four. A remarkable tale all round.

Jack Draper v Jenson Brooksby
13:41 , Luke BakerThat means it’s time for a Brit to take to the court as Jack Draper faces Jenson Brooksby. Draper is one of the favourites to win Queen’s this year.
GAME, SET AND MATCH! Alex de Minaur 4-6, 2-6 Jiri Lehecka
13:37 , Luke BakerAnd that’s it. Jiri Lehecka easily sees things out for a very impressive win over fifth seed Alex De Minaur.
A well-deserved win for the Czech who dominated this match. He dictated play and showed good mobility around the court to keep De Minaur off balance.

Alex de Minaur 4-6, 2-5 Jiri Lehecka*
13:22 , Luke BakerDouble break sealed by Jiri Lehecka and he’s on the brink of victory.
His movement around the court today has been superb, while De Minaur’s error count has been unsustainbly high.
The fifth seed is about to crash out early on at Queen’s Club
*Alex de Minaur 4-6, 2-4 Jiri Lehecka
13:19 , Luke BakerLehecka is still in complete control of this match as he holds serve twice more and edges ever closer to the finish line.
De Minaur does manage to hold himself in between but he’s not able to credibly challenge the Czech’s serve at the moment.
Alex de Minaur 4-6, 1-2 Jiri Lehecka*
13:10 , Luke BakerAfter a couple of holds of serve to begin the second set, De Minaur faces big trouble in the third game with Lehecka earning two break points.
And he wins the second of those, as the Australian watches a net cord fly wide to hand Lehecka an important break of serve.
He’s in complete control of this match now and the fifth seed needs to dig deep to avoid an early exit in London
Andy Murray cements legacy with return to Queen’s as tournament writes new chapter
13:05 , Flo CliffordTwo weeks on from Rafael Nadal’s triumphant return to Roland-Garros, another grand slam champion returned to the site of his greatest success.
Andy Murray’s return to Queen’s Club, where he won a record five titles, was much more low-key. There was no emotional speech, just some banter about his growing prowess at golf; a brief knockabout with tournament director and former doubles partner Laura Robson, and two youth ambassadors, 10-year-old Gloria and seven-year-old Jay, instead of a photo opportunity with the rest of the ‘Big Four’. “My tennis is diabolical nowadays,” he joked, “apologies for what you’re about to witness!”
“This tournament and this court has had many special moments for me,” he added. “It was my most successful event, I always loved coming back. I’m very grateful for whoever it was who decided to name the stadium!”

SET! Alex de Minaur 4-6 Jiri Lehecka - JIRI LEHECKA WINS THE FIRST SET
12:59 , Luke BakerDe Minaur gives himself a foothold at 0-15 but a well-executed Lehecka drop shot, De Minaur floating a forehand long and a crunching ace out wide bring up two set points for the Czech.
The first is saved but an arrowed serve out wide is unreturnable and Jiri Lehecka wins the first set at Queen’s. Good stuff from the Czech who has now given the fifth seed it all to do

12:55 , Luke BakerA hold of serve apiece and Lehecka is now serving for the first set. What can the Australian find to keep this set going?
Andy Murray swaps Queen's grass for golf green
12:55 , Flo CliffordIn other news... Andy Murray, Ben Stokes and John Terry, three icons of British sport, are confirmed for the BMW PGA Championship’s Celebrity Pro-Am, the traditional curtain raiser to the prestigious Rolex Series event, on Wednesday September 10, 2025.
Murray made his Celebrity Pro-Am debut last year alongside countryman Robert MacIntyre shortly after announcing his retirement from tennis after the Paris Olympics.
The Scot, of course, won three Grand Slam titles and Olympic Gold during his glittering career, which also saw him spend 41 weeks as world No 1.
Alex de Minaur 3-4 Jiri Lehecka*
12:46 , Flo CliffordFrom 40-15 up on serve, de Minaur is dragged to deuce as Lehecka’s crisp, brutal ballstriking continues. He’s making the Australian, one of the best athletes on the tour, struggle to cover the amount of court he’s using.
Three deuces come and go - de Minaur is unlucky to slip over on the baseline, in prime position to win the game - but the fifth seed eventually bags a crucial hold.
Alex de Minaur 2-3 Jiri Lehecka*
12:35 , Flo CliffordLehecka’s powerful groundstrokes and ability to take time away from de Minaur are proving the difference so far.
The fifth seed holds to keep the deficit to just one break.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina withdraws from Queen's
12:30 , Flo CliffordCarlos Alcaraz was due to play fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina today, with their match scheduled third on the Andy Murray Arena.
However, Davidovich Fokina has just withdrawn through illness, so he’ll be replaced by lucky loser Adam Walton.
*Alex de Minaur 0-2 Jiri Lehecka
12:23 , Flo CliffordLehecka backs up his break, and so far is looking the more comfortable of the pair on the grass.
Alex de Minaur 0-1 Lehecka*
12:18 , Flo CliffordA booming ace brings up game point for de Minaur, but Lehecka attacks his second serve next and the Australian thumps a forehand into the net. He’s looking a little rustier than usual; he took a break after the French Open, which he doesn’t normally do, and might be playing catch-up a little.
A wild forehand miss gives Lehecka an early shot at a break, and the Czech outlasts de Minaur in a rally, the fifth seed netting to hand it over.

12:15 , Flo CliffordAlex de Minaur, serving first, opens with an ace - but Lehecka pegs him back and the Australian arrives late to a forehand, sending it long for deuce.

Jack Draper and Carlos Alcaraz resume budding rivalry at Queen’s as British No 1 eyes top spot
11:50 , Flo CliffordThis time a year ago, British observers at Queen’s Club crossed their fingers and hoped for the best as Jack Draper faced defending champion and super-talent Carlos Alcaraz in the last 16. It was an unenviable draw, to say the least.
But Draper rose to the occasion, dispatching the Spaniard in straight sets, on a day that marked his transformation from young prospect to serious player.
A week earlier, he had won his maiden ATP title, on the grass in Stuttgart, defeating former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini. If 2024 was to prove his breakout year, 2025, so far, has sent him into the stratosphere.
Now at a career high of world No 4 – although he will slip to fifth on Monday, having lost ranking points from not defending his title in Stuttgart – the Brit has arrived among the tennis elite.

Katie Boulter reveals reply to online troll after receiving death threats
11:40 , Flo CliffordIn grimmer news, British player Katie Boulter revealed she has received multiple death threats and abuse after her performances on court and has even interacted with online trolls to help them better understand the damage they can cause.
The British No 2 has recalled how after she dropped a tie-break at the French Open last month against Carole Monnet, several gamblers messaged her online.
Boulter would go on to win her second round match at Roland Garros in three sets, yet she has been left in fear by the experience.

Jack Draper has proven his doubters wrong and is ready to win Wimbledon
11:30 , Flo CliffordQueen’s will hold fond memories for Jack Draper, who arrives as the second seed this week and kicks off his campaign today. Kieran Jackson has the details:
To pinpoint the exact moment where British No 1 Jack Draper launched his ascent to the upper echelons of men’s tennis, you’d need only go back 12 months this very weekend.
Off the back of a disappointing first-round exit at the 2024 French Open, Draper broke his ATP title duck with a statement triumph on the grass in Stuttgart. That week, as he has since acknowledged, something clicked in his big-hitting, flamboyant lefty game.
A few days later, the Brit outgunned Carlos Alcaraz at Queen’s. While the Spaniard would go on to win his second title at SW19 a few weeks later, Draper slumped to a disappointing second-round loss to compatriot Cameron Norrie.

Dan Evans rolls back the years to dismantle Frances Tiafoe in first upset at Queen’s
11:24 , Flo CliffordThe highlight of yesterday’s action was fan favourite Dan Evans enjoying his biggest win in nearly two years. Here’s how that unfolded:
Only two summers ago Dan Evans was up at a career-high ranking of 21st in the world. Now the Birmingham-born player is just a fraction inside the top 200, having dropped out of it altogether earlier this year.
His season so far has been one of hard grind with little reward, spent largely plugging away on the lower-tier, lower-profile Challenger tour. He has only won one ATP-level match this season, on the grass last week at ’s-Hertogenbosch, where he came through qualifying to reach the last-16.
However, somewhere the Brit always comes alive is on the grass. And under bright Queen’s Club sunshine on the Andy Murray Arena, Evans produced some of his best inventive, classy tennis to dismantle the world No 13 and seventh seed Frances Tiafoe. His 7-5, 6-2 win was his first top-20 victory since October 2023 (coincidentally, also over the American).
