Jack Draper has parted ways with his coach of four years James Trotman, who has revealed that he is stepping away from the British No1’s team to spend more time with his family.
Draper, whose meteoric rise to the top of the men’s world rankings has come under Trotman’s guidance, has hired Jamie Delgado, Andy Murray’s former coach, ahead of the next calendar year.
The Indian Wells champion was hoping that Delgado and Trotman would work collaboratively in his team, but Trotman, who oversaw Draper’s first ATP titles and a run to the US Open semi-finals, will not be sat in the 23-year-old’s player’s box from next year.
Trotman told BBC Sport that he was struggling to deal with the demands of balancing family life and coaching a top-class player.
"I've made the decision that four years has been a great run," Trotman said.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was getting increasingly difficult for me juggling the demands Jack deserves as the player that he is - and also being a father and a husband.
"I need to start to get those energy levels back up and have a little bit more normality - watch my son play football on a Sunday, go on some family holidays, have a bit more of a normal life.
"My relationship with Jack is strong. We are extremely close.
"We spent more time with each other than anybody else on the planet over the past four years.
"We are going to stay incredibly close and obviously I'll be following and supporting in any way I can from the sidelines.
"Whatever Jack does in the future, I feel incredibly proud of the work that I've done.”
Trotman revealed that he had told Draper of his intentions after Wimbledon, where the Briton was stunned in the second round by Marin Cilic.
Draper is on the comeback trail from an arm injury that curtailed his season prematurely, and the world No9 is set to travel to San Diego for a warm-weather training camp in November.
Trotman is expected to be part of that trip, and Delgado will also join forces with the British No1, who is aiming to return to action at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown in London in December.
