NRL player Jack de Belin "didn't take no for an answer" when he allegedly raped a teenager with his friend Callan Sinclair in 2018, a Sydney court has heard.

The pair are accused of raping the 19-year-old woman in Wollongong after a Christmas pub crawl.

Mr de Belin, 30, and Mr Sinclair, 24, have both pleaded not guilty to five counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The jury has been told it will hear evidence from a previous trial which did not conclude.

Crown prosecutor David Scully told the court the woman "was dead inside" and "numb" during the assault which is alleged to have occurred at a North Wollongong apartment belonging to Mr de Belin's cousin.

In the Downing Centre District Court, Mr Scully said the trio met up on the dance floor of the Mr Crown nightclub and that Mr de Belin thought the woman might "be keen" for a threesome.

The court heard Mr de Belin pinned the woman down and that she sustained bruising to her neck and chest before she was assaulted by both men.

De Belin's defence barrister David Campbell SC told the jury to examine the credibility and reliability of the evidence and that neither Mr de Belin nor Mr Sinclair have "ever disputed that acts of sexual intercourse happened that night".

"Each of them have forcefully, emphatically and consistently denied there was anything untoward about what happened," he said.

Barrister Sharyn Hall, acting for Shellharbour Sharks player Mr Sinclair, said her client "did not sexually assault the complainant" and that he was "a man of good character" who had "never been in trouble before."

The trial is expected to last for around three weeks.
