Jack Conan added to Ireland squad for France clash as Peter O'Mahony faces suspension

Jack Conan has been added to the Ireland squad ahead of Sunday's Six Nations clash with France at the Aviva Stadium.

The Leinster No 8 hasn't played at Test level since the World Cup finals win over Scotland in October 2019.

Conan's World Cup was curtailed due an foot injury that required surgery and he hasn't featured for Ireland since, but the 28-year-old has been in good form recently, picking up the man of the match award in Leinster's PRO14 victory over Scarlets.

He comes into Andy Farrell's squad with Peter O'Mahony expected to pick up a suspension in this afternoon's disciplinary hearing following his red card offence against Wales on Sunday.

However O'Mahony's provincial back row colleague Gavin Coombes has returned to train with Munster after spending some time with the squad last week.

However Ryan Baird, who also trained with the squad last week, has stayed on as cover.

Skipper Johnny Sexton and James Ryan are going through the graduated return to play protocols this week and Farrell will be hopeful both will be available.

The fact that no out-half has been called into the squad suggests confidence that Sexton will make it.

Prop Ed Byrne, who provided additional front row cover for the trip to Cardiff, has also remained with the squad.
