Harlequins and England flanker Jack Clifford has been forced to retire from rugby at the age of 27 due to injury.
Clifford led England to the U20 Junior World Championship in 2013 and made 10 senior international appearances between 2016 and 2017.
He had been around Eddie Jones’ squad more recently, but has been beset by injury.
Despite two operations, Clifford has been unable to overcome a shoulder injury he picked up playing in his 100th game for Harlequins against London Irish last September.
Clifford said he was “gutted” to be retiring prematurely, while Harlequins head of rugby Paul Gustard paid tribute to the player.
“It is with sadness that Jackman has been forced to retire from the game prematurely after another serious injury,” said Gustard.
"He was a player who had the ability to change a game with his explosive pace and offloading skills which, allied to his high work rate, meant he was an important player for us last season when he was a mainstay of the side who finished fifth.”
England head coach Jones said: "It's sad to hear the news about Jack's retirement. He's a good competitive player and a fine young man. We wish him all the best."
