Jack Clarke sends classy message to Leeds United fans ahead of Tottenham return

Jack Clarke will be back at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January after the club decided to recall him from his Leeds United loan spell.

Making a huge impression in the Championship last term after bursting onto the scene, the winger joined Spurs at the start of July with Mauricio Pochettino making him the club's first signing since the January 2018 arrival of Lucas Moura.

The former manager elected to send the 19-year-old back to the West Yorkshire club on loan for the season to pick up more experience but it just hasn't worked out for the York-born ace.

Starting two games in the Carabao Cup back in August, Clarke was limited to only 19 minutes in the league as he played the closing stages of the 2-1 win at Luton in November.

Although he did feature on the bench quite regularly in the last two months of his loan spell, the rules that allow clubs to only name five loan players in a matchday squad didn't help him out at the start of the season as Leeds had six loanees at their disposal and he was the man to miss out regularly.

Now that it has been confirmed that the talented player will be back in north London at the start of next month, he has sent a classy message to Leeds fans on Twitter.

"Was always a dream of mine to play for Leeds United, a dream I managed to fulfil and I will be forever thankful for," he tweeted.

"I would like to thank the club, staff and all the players I’ve learnt from and got to know over the years.

"I wish the club and the fans all the very best in the future."

Brentford and Fulham are two clubs believed to be keen on signing Clarke on loan in January and he is expected to move on from Spurs again once the transfer window opens for business.

Speaking after the draw against Preston North End on Boxing Day, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa praised the player even though he only featured in three games for the side this campaign.

"I am very grateful with Clarke. He made his contribution in this part of the season, even if I didn’t use him," said the Argentine, as reported by Leeds Live.

"In the last days, he improved his performance, but just when this process was going on Tottenham decided to ask Leeds for Clarke to come back.

"I thought it was unnecessary to keep him if I knew he wasn’t going to be with us.

"I always try to make the players arrive as the best version of themselves. Sometimes, this process is not fast, it’s slow and we don’t achieve it faster.

"For instance, I saw Nketiah tonight at a good level, light and fresh to run in a tough match and comfortable.

"He unbalanced a lot of situations. He was fast. Comfortable in small-sized spaces and able to unbalance the match."
