Jack Byrne only concentrating on Shamrock Rovers despite Hull City interest

Republic of Ireland international Jack Byrne has brushed aside rumours of a move back to England

Byrne’s stock has rocketed in the last 12 months after returning home to revive his career with Shamrock Rovers.

The former Manchester City rookie, who also had spells with Wigan, Oldham and Kilmarnock, was crowned PFAI Player of the Year at the weekend and that form has alerted a number of English clubs.

It is understood Hull City are among a number of admirers to have scouted the attacking midfielder, who made his international debut in September.

Byrne is expected to get another chance to catch the eye of Mick McCarthy when they face New Zealand in a friendly on Thursday.

And he gave Rovers fans the good news they'd been waiting for in an interview last night on Virgin Media Sport when he said: “I’m here for another year and all I’m concentrating on is Rovers and doing well for the club.

"I just want to repay their faith that they’ve shown in me and just keep working hard."

The Tigers are also keen on Byrne’s Rovers team-mate Lee Grace, according to the Irish Independent, and are expected to take a closer look during a trial period at the club during the international break.

Grace, 26, has never played outside of his native Ireland but did impress in Rovers' Europa League qualification campaign this season.

City have already raided the League of Ireland once during manager Grant McCann’s reign, landing Sean McLoughlin from Cork City in July.

The centre-back has since joined St Mirren on loan without featuring for the Tigers but McCann has predicted a bright future for the 22-year-old.
