Jack Butland to Rangers transfer edges closer after 'Tuesday talks' as Michael Beale eyes third deal

Rangers and Jack Butland have been locked in talks as Michael Beale looks to secure the English Premier League stopper, according to a report.

Light Blues legend Allan McGregor was part of a group of five players who departed the club following the expiry of contracts in Glasgow. He joined Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield and Filip Helander in making an exit with the summer rebuild well underway. Kieran Dowell and Dujon Sterling have arrived in the opposite direction penning pre-contracts.

Now the Daily Mail report that England cap Butland is preparing to join on a free from Crystal Palace after a compromise on personal terms has been reached. The 30-year-old is eager to play consistent minutes after a disappointing spell in terms of game-time at both the Eagles and current loan side Manchester United.

The same report states that Beale has stressed the importance of landing his No1 goalkeeping target to the club given his experience in England's top leagues with talks between Butland and Rangers said to have taken place on Tuesday evening.

He would join Robby McCrorie and Kieran Wright in the goalkeeping ranks while Jon McLaughlin could be ready for an Ibrox exit with a number of fringe men expected to depart this summer as part of the big overhaul.

It's set to be a massive couple of months in Govan with the Ibrox gaffer keen to get plenty of business done early as he bids to end Celtic's stranglehold on the domestic game while also qualify for the Champions League group stage once again with two rounds of qualifying to negotiate.

Should Butland complete a move north he would be the second England international goalkeeper to make the switch in recent years after Celtic secured Joe Hart during Ange Postecoglou's first season.
