Jack Butland addresses Rangers transfer after completing Manchester United exit

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland has admitted that he is "delighted" to have completed a move to Scottish giants Rangers.

After several weeks of speculation, the former Stoke City goalkeeper's move to the Glasgow club was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. He has moved north of the border on a free transfer ahead of his contract expiring at Crystal Palace.

Butland spent the second half of this season on loan at Old Trafford, joining United from Palace in January following Newcastle United's decision to recall Martin Dubravka from his loan spell in M16 early. Butland, however, failed to make a single appearance for Erik ten Hag's side, being used as an unused substitute on 20 occasions instead.

Having failed to make a single first-team appearance across the 2022/23 campaign, either for Palace or United, the 30-year-old will have ambitions of getting his career back on track at Rangers, who will have high hopes of competing for the Scottish title next season.

"I'm over the moon," Butland told Rangers' club website. "The club speaks for itself. No matter where you are in football, you know about Rangers Football Club.

"This is a huge opportunity for me, and I'm delighted to be here. I feel great and motivated at the age that I am, and I feel excited at what the future holds. Doing that at a club that is equally as passionate about winning and being at the top was huge for me.

"It's an important summer for the club and we need to get off to a good start. Getting the work done early is hugely important, so that we're settled and raring to go when we come back in."

On leaving Old Trafford, Butland, posting on Instagram, commented: "It was short and sweet, but an unreal experience being with the team I've supported since a young boy. The staff, players, fans and everyone involved with the club are another level.

"Disappointing to end the season like we did but this team is going places once again and everyone should be excited. Thank you Manchester United."

Butland will officially join Rangers on July 1 when his contract at Palace expires.
