Jacinda Ardern engaged: New Zealand Prime Minister to marry Clarke Gayford

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is engaged to her long-term partner Clarke Gayford.

Miss Ardern, 38, who has been in power since 2017, was reportedly engaged to Mr Gayford, 41, over the Easter weekend.

The Prime Minister was spotted wearing a diamond ring on the middle finger of her left hand today, according to reports.

The couple met at an awards event in 2012 and have a 10-month-old baby, called Neve.

Neve's birth marked the second time that a politician had given birth in office, with the other case being Pakistan's former leader Benazir Bhutto.

Miss Ardern's colleague Winston Peters took over as Prime Minister for six weeks while the New Zealand politician was on maternity leave.

Well wishers have already posted a wave of messages on Twitter, congratulating the couple on their engagement.
