‘Jacare’ Souza to undergo surgery after gruesome arm break in UFC 262 loss

Ronaldo Souza is in good spirits after a graphic loss to Andre Muniz on Saturday at UFC 262.

“Jacare” had his losing skid extended to four fights with a first-round technical submission loss to Muniz at Toyota Center in Houston, but this was the worst one yet.

Souza (26-10 MMA, 9-7 UFC) was caught in an armbar by Muniz (21-4 MMA, 3-0 UFC) that ended the fight when an audible cracking sound could be heard. According to a report from MMA Fighting, Souza suffered a fractured humerus in his right arm, but his personal doctor described his condition as being “fine.”

Souza will need to undergo surgery to repair the damage, however, and a subsequent report from ESPN said he’s scheduled for a procedure on Monday.

Souza briefly spoke to ESPN and said he’s not in serious pain, despite the injury.

“The UFC is giving me all the support,” Souza said. “When the world stopped, the UFC was moving and taking care of all the athletes.”

Souza, 41, hasn’t won a fight since November 2018. His current losing kid comes against Muniz, Kevin Holland, Jan Blachowicz, and Jack Hermansson.

It’s unknown how the injury will impact Souza’s future, and he has yet to comment on any potential plans to keep fighting in the aftermath of UFC 262.
