When the New York Giants made the trade that put Jabrill Peppers in a blue uniform, many around the area remembered him for his high school days in Northern New Jersey. Peppers grew up in East Orange, a short ride from MetLife Stadium.
Peppers clearly hasn’t forgotten his roots, as he recently donated money to youth teams in East Orange. He and United Rentals teamed up to donate $10,000 worth of football gear to two youth teams from the area — the East Orange Hurricanes and the East Orange Jr. Jaguars.
The two youth teams will also be in attendance at the Giants’ first preseason game against the New York Jets on Thursday Night.
When Peppers heard of the news that he was going to be traded to the Giants, he was excited about the prospect of playing close to home. However, on the field, Peppers has big shoes to fill as he comes in to replace former defensive captain, Landon
Collins. Coincidentally, Peppers is wearing the No. 21 that Collins wore when he was on the Giants.
Peppers spent time signing autographs for the kids following the practice and seemed to really enjoy spending time with them. Fellow safety and Pro Bowler from last year, Michael Thomas, spends a lot of time giving back to the community as well.
Peppers is certainly embracing his time with his new team as the forgotten piece of the Odell Beckham trade. It’s great to see the Giants new safety already giving back to the community during his short time with his new team.
