Jaaved Jaaferi’s wife allegedly duped in ₹16.24 crore investment scam; BMC official suspended

Reports from TOI said that The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has suspended Assistant Commissioner Mahesh Patil of the K-North ward with immediate effect over allegations of cheating actor Jaaved Jaaferi’s wife, Habiba Jaaferi, of ₹16.24 crore.

Suspension Order Issued

The suspension order was issued on Friday and formally served to Patil on Sunday, June 7.

Allegations of Investment Fraud

According to the complaint, Patil, along with his associates, allegedly convinced Habiba Jaaferi to invest in a redevelopment project in Mumbai’s Bandra area, promising high returns and significant profits.

The accused are also suspected of creating forged and fake documents to carry out the alleged fraud.

FIR Filed, Accused Absconding

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Khar Police Station. Since then, Patil has reportedly gone absconding, and authorities have been unable to trace his location.

Case Transferred to Crime Branch

Khar Police have booked Patil along with five other individuals in connection with the case.

Given the seriousness of the allegations and the large sum involved, the investigation has now been handed over to the Mumbai Crime Branch.

Raids Underway

Crime Branch teams are currently conducting raids at multiple locations to locate the suspended official and the other accused persons involved in the case.
