Ja Rule targets the Sacramento Kings in the least ambitious NBA curse

Rapper Ja Rule, best known now for his role in promoting the fraudulent Fyre Festival, is coming off a demoralizing halftime show at the Milwaukee Bucks’ “90s Night.”

That appearance, which was roasted by the NBA world, had Ja Rule moving onto his next venture: Cursing middle-of-the-pack NBA franchises.

On Saturday, he cursed the Minnesota Timberwolves for 30 years and proclaimed that Karl-Anthony Towns would leave the Wolves despite him recently signing an extension to keep him in Minnesota through 2024. On Monday, Ja Rule’s curse got off to a bad start with the Wolves beating the Sacramento Kings, 112-105. The Kings responded to the loss by poking fun at Ja Rule’s attempt at being Lil B.

Ja Rule had seen enough! The blatant disrespect from the Kings Twitter account prompted the Fyre Festival dude to announce another curse — this time, on the Kings. And Karl-Anthony Towns would leave them too! (Nobody tell him).

In a sense, I respect Ja Rule’s attempt to get in on the NBA curse game. Lil B had some success with cursing James Harden until, well, Harden became the league’s most unstoppable scoring machine. But talk about setting the bar low with these curses.

Did anyone seriously think the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings were winning a title in the near future anyway? Sure, Karl-Anthony Towns is awesome. De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield make up the league’s most underrated backcourt. But neither franchise has won a championship unless you count the Rochester Royals in 1951, and honestly, neither will win a championship anytime soon.

In the age of superteams, it would take seismic changes in the league for Sacramento and Minnesota to emerge as serious title contenders.

Ja Rule didn’t exactly go out on a limb here.

If he wanted to make a splash with NBA curses, target the Warriors. Go after the Raptors. Steal Durant’s talent. Anything, really. Otherwise you’re just cursing the No. 9 and 10 seeds in the West. That means nothing.

C’mon, Ja. Show some pride.

Update: The Kings aren’t too concerned with the curse.
