Anti-coup activist Sirawith "Ja New" Seritiwat has been given a suspended six-month jail term and fined 500 baht for contempt of court, while six other activists face one-year probation each for the same offence, said their lawyer yesterday.
They were tried in a Khon Kaen court which passed the ruling yesterday.
The seven were found guilty of making political gestures and holding political activities in the premises of the Khon Kaen court on Feb 10.
The seven were also ordered by the court to do 24 hours of community service, said lawyer Phawinee Chumsri.
Mr Sirawith, who is a key figure of a political movement group called Resistant Citizen, received a heavier punishment as he was expected to be more mature, according to the court, being the only one in the group who has graduated from university. The others are still at university.
Immediately after the ruling, the seven were taken to the provincial probation office.
