Ja Morant Echoes Bold Expectations for Next Season After Grizzlies’ Derrick Rose Move

Ja Morant has been mostly quiet on social media since the NBA announced his 25-game suspension in June for holding a gun on an Instagram live stream.

As the two-time All-Star continues to work on his “mental health and decision making” this offseason, it has not stopped him from reaffirming his pursuit to come back next season better than before, especially with the Grizzlies’ addition of Derrick Rose. Veteran guard Isaiah Thomas tweeted Wednesday that Morant “will have his best season yet… on some MVP s---” with Derrick Rose “connected to his hip all year long.”

Morant echoed Thomas’s sentiment in a tweet.

“you too loud OG . they gon feel me fasho 🧘🏽‍♂️☮️,” Morant tweeted.

Shortly after reports surfaced that the Grizzlies were signing Rose, Morant tweeted a rose emoji in reaction to the news. Prior to that tweet, the 23-year-old had not tweeted since May 13.

Rose, whose signing became official Monday, brings a strong veteran presence for the Grizzlies locker room as well as Morant, who has often been compared to the veteran guard.

Rose, who turns 35 in October, returns to Memphis 15 years after playing one season at the University of Memphis, where he led the Tigers to the 2008 NCAA Final Four and an appearance in the epic national championship game against Kansas.

Last season, the three-time All-Star and former league MVP averaged 5.6 points in 27 games. Prior to joining Memphis, Rose spent the last three seasons with the Knicks in his second stint with the franchise.
