J.R. Sweezy gets 2-year, $9M deal from Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have invested more money on the offensive line. One of the latest additions is veteran guard J.R. Sweezy, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks.

He signed a two-year deal with the Cardinals and, while it isn’t for big money, it isn’t a super cheap deal.

According to Over the Cap, it is a two-year deal worth $9 million.

He got a decently large signing bonus of $3 million. He will make $1.5 million in 2019 and $3.5 million in 2020. He will get up to $500,000 each year in per-game roster bonuses based on the number of games he is active.

His cap number in 2019 will be up to $3.5 million.

He also can earn another $500,000 this season in other bonuses and the total contract can be worth up to $11 million through playing time incentives.

It is not big money but it is what a team has to pay a longtime starter.

If he is on the roster in 2020, his cap number will be up to $5.5 million and if they cut him, his contract will count $1.5 million against the cap in dead money.
