J.K. Rowling refused to answer questions about Donald Trump at the Fantastic Beasts premiere so not to dampen the mood.
The Harry Potter author, who has been outspoken about her disdain for Mr Trump throughout the course of his election campaign, said she “was in a kind of bleak mood” travelling to New York to promote the film based on her novel.
She then reportedly refused to speak about the new President-elect, saying: “I think I don't want to say any more, specifically, about yesterday right now because we are here for the movie that we've all worked so hard on and I would like to talk about that. I think today might be a good day to concentrate on some good things and putting some good things out into the world hopefully.”
Rowling has been updating her Twitter followers with her thoughts and emotions about the shock election results. On Wednesday, she provided those who were upset with the result with an action plan: “We stand together. We stick up for the vulnerable. We challenge bigots. We don’t let hate speech become normalised. We hold the line.”
The 51 year old, who said she cried watching Hillary Clinton’s concession speech on Wednesday, has been a longstanding critic of Mr Trump dating back to branding him “worse than Voldemort” (the master villain of the Harry Potter series) when he pledged a “complete shutdown” of Muslim immigration to the US.
