J.J. Watt to begin practicing next week

The Arizona Cardinals have not had defensive end J.J. Watt participate in any practice since the start of training camp. He suffered a minor hamstring injury during the conditioning test and was placed on the physically unable to perform list (PUP).

He is coming back.

On ESPN’s television broadcast of the Cardinals’ preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs, he told Lisa Salters that he would be back at practice Monday, saying is “all good” with the hamstring.

The timing of his return means he did not participate in any open practices and won’t likely play in the preseason finale next week. There will be no tape of the Cardinals using him on defense before they take the field September 12 to play the Tennessee Titans on the road.

This will keep Watt, who participated in all the offseason program, fresh for the season. He traditionally has played almost all his teams’ defensive snaps. The Cardinals plan on reducing his snap counts to make his snaps more impactful.

The process has already begun.
