Right before the first NFL game of the season kicked off Thursday night, the Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs locked arms in the middle of the field in a moment of unity that was designed to promote, well, unity and equality – two things that we should all be fighting for and be supporting.
It was a great moment that should have been a celebration of more important things in our world but instead Chiefs fans at Arrowhead Stadium (around 17,000 were allowed into the game) booed the teams in what was a disgusting and embarrassing moment that should leave those fans ashamed of themselves.
Texans star J.J. Watt spoke after the game about the booing fans, calling it “unfortunate.” He also rightfully didn’t understand why the fans would react that way:
"The moment of unity I personally thought was good. I mean the booing during that moment was unfortunate. I don’t fully understand that. There was no flag involved. There was nothing involved other than two teams coming together to show unity.”

Watt makes some fantastic points there. Booing unity? Really?
We should be a lot better than that, and a lot of us are, but unfortunately a lot of the fans inside the stadium were not.
