J.J. Watt personally apologized to Deshaun Watson after final game: ‘We wasted one of your years’

To say that this season didn’t go as planned for the Houston Texans would be a massive understatement.

This season saw the Texans fire head coach and general manager Bill O’Brien after an 0-4 start to the year. O’Brien, of course, had traded DeAndre Hopkins to Arizona for David Johnson — an oft-injured running back who hadn’t been impactful for three years. On top of that, the Miami Dolphins owned the Texans’ first-round pick for 2021.

So with all that in mind, it’s probably O’Brien who should have been apologizing to franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson for the 4-12 season.

Instead, J.J. Watt made a point to let Watson know they let him down.

NFL Films released postgame video from Sunday’s Week 17 loss to the Tennessee Titans. Watt walked off the field with Watson and personally apologized for the wasted season.

He said:

“Good job, brother. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. We wasted one of your years. I’m sorry.”

Watson felt that they should’ve had 11 wins this season, and it’ll be a tough road back as the Dolphins will pick third in Houston’s place this year.
