J.J. Watt focused on Texans’ teammates post Jadeveon Clowney trade

The Houston Texans traded away one of their key components to the defense on Saturday; Jadeveon Clowney is now a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

Three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt isn’t going to sugarcoat it. Losing a three-time Pro Bowl edge rusher is a tough one to swallow.

“Obviously it’s tough to lose a player like that,” Watt said on Tuesday. But, he’s focused on the team around him, noting Houston has “a lot of guys out there than can step up can make plays.”

What type of guys?

Watt’s answer: “[Outside linebacker] Whitney (Mercilus) obviously on the edge, myself on the edge, [nose tackle] D.J. (Reader), [nose tackle] Dunny (Brandon Dunn), [defensive end] Lo (Angelo Blackson), you’ve got [inside linebackers] B-Mac (Benardrick McKinney) and Zach (Cunningham), [safety] J. (Justin) Reid, [cornerback] J-Jo (Johnathan Joseph), all the guys on the back end.”

The Texans are moving on from Clowney; for now, the focus is on beating the New Orleans Saints on Monday. To do that, Watt says “we just need to go out there and play football.”
