J.J. Watt, DeAndre Hopkins start Texans training camp on PUP list

The Houston Texans won’t have two of their All-Pros when training camp begins Thursday.

According to the team, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and defensive end J.J. Watt have been placed on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

Hopkins spent the offseason recovering from shoulder surgery after getting injured in the club’s 21-7 wild-card playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Jan. 5.

Watt had a knee procedure in January following the season, an optimistic campaign that produced 16 sacks after he played in a combined eight games over the past two seasons. Joining Watt and Hopkins on the PUP list is WR DeAndre Carter.

Starting the camp on the PUP list doesn’t carry the permanent ramifications as it does starting the regular season on the list. If that were the case, all three players would not be eligible for the first six weeks. However, players that start out training camp on PUP are able to be activated at any time.

The club also placed rookie outside linebacker Jamal Davis on the non-football illness list and rookies TE Kahale Warring and Walter Palmore on the non-football injury list.
