J. Crew goes old school at NY Fashion Week

NEW YORK _ Is old school style still relevant in an age when shoppers can immediately purchase the latest fashions? J.Crew thinks so, as long as it's styled with a fresh perspective.

This philosophy came through in the retailer's fall/winter 2017 collection presented Sunday at Spring Studios in lower Manhattan. Now in its 11th season at New York Fashion Week, J.Crew marked the occasion with a nod to its roots: rugby shirts, corduroy, windbreakers, a touch of tartan and anything tweed. These brand staples were mixed with fun updates such as pom-pom details and fur bags in electric colors and animal prints.

For the men, J.Crew also revived heritage pieces like "critter" shirts and ties (named for the woodland animals on them) and paired them with wide-leg pants, raw denim and athletic wear.

The presentation featured 62 looks worn by friends, family and fans of the brand ranging in age from 9 to 67. Among the models was comedian/entertainer Sandra Bernhard.

"It's chic, comfortable and totally unexpected," she told Vogue about her look.
