NEW YORK _ The Yankees are off to their best start to a season since 2003, which resulted in a trip to the World Series. The 15-6 Yankees won their fifth straight game, 4-2, over Boston on Sunday night in the third game of a four-game series. Only the Oakland Athletics (16-6) have a better record in the American League than the Yankees.
The Yankees bullpen did their part to hold on to a good start from J.A. Happ. Adam Ottavino and Chad Green each ran into some trouble, but worked out of it with the lead still intact. Zack Britton came on in the ninth inning and allowed a run, but struck out three to earn his league-best eighth save of the season.
The storied rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox has been one-sided as of late with the Yankees winning their ninth straight game over their rivals from Boston. It is the first time the Yankees have dominated the rivalry with nine wins in a row since a stretch of 12 straight wins from 1952-1953.
Yankees batters continue to see the ball well, scoring 25 total runs in the three games of this series and have at least one home run in 17 straight home games dating back to the 2019 season, the fourth-longest streak in team history.
