'Iwobi > Salah!' - Arsenal supporters go crazy as Liverpool star suffers AFCON heartbreak

There was contrasting results for some Premier League stars at the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday evening.

Arsenal midfielder Alex Iwobi scored the winner as Nigeria came from behind to knock out holders Cameroon and advance to the quarter-final stage.

The nephew of former Premier League star Jay-Jay Okocha combined with ex-Watford striker Ighalo before coolly slotting the ball past Andre Onana to net his first goal of the tournament.

Running on to the ball from a deep position has given some Arsenal fans ideas of Iwobi being the natural replacement for Aaron Ramsey who has now joined Juventus on a free transfer.

That goal meant the Super Eagles could sit back and await the winners of the later round of 16 tie between host nation Egypt and South Africa.

Many would have expected Egypt to advance as they did cruise through the group phase.

However, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and Iwobi's club teammate Mohamed Elneny were stunned as Thembinkosi Lorch's 85-minute goal ensured the hosts were eliminated.

As a result, Salah has been denied the chance to add an international trophy to winning the Champions League.

This has prompted a huge reaction from Gunners supporters on social media.
