Ivy plant grows to over 300 feet covering walls and ceiling of office

A potted ivy plant in a small office in Gloucestershire has grown to over 300 feet long – looping around the roof and walls of the office several times.

Managing director Des Brennan bought the plant to brighten up his work space back in 2007 when it was less than three feet long.

But then, he says: "It just flourished. I think it likes the fluorescent lights, and the heat."

The vine requires very little maintenance, and Brennan says that all it needs is to be watered a couple of times a week.

“It does cost us a fortune in elastic bands though, to pin it to the roof.”

The plant is popular among workers at the office, says Brennan. “Some of the girls talk to the plant, but I don’t believe in all that stuff.”

“When it grows too big to fit in the office, we’ll have to punch a hole in the roof and let it grow onto the mezzanine.”
