Iveagh Markets application for state-of-the-art foodhall thrown out by Dublin City Council

Dublin City Council has refused an application by a popular Dublin hotelier to redevelop the iconic Iveagh Markets.

The plans lodged by Martin Keane would see the market turned into a foodhall with restaurants, a distillery, brewery and craft shop.

The application was declared invalid by Dublin City Council who plan to repossess the market which Keane has had control of for over 20 years.

Martin Keane put the plans forward two days before Christmas but didn't get "the council’s consent as landowner", The Irish Times reports.

The council added that they do not believe Martin Keane had the funds needed for the project and that they would be willing to defend their case in court if needed.

The hotelier said that he would not be commenting on the matter following legal advice.
