Ivanka Trump decries critics as 'enemies and spies' in impeachment tweet to dad

Ivanka Trump quoted Thomas Jefferson's warning about "enemies and spies" in an impeachment message of support to her embattled dad.

The first daughter cited one of the Founding Fathers as telling his own daughter that critics were "catching and perverting every word that falls from my lips or flows from my pen, and inventing where facts fail them."

"Some things never change, dad!" Ivanka tweeted minutes after the House of Representatives voted to approve a road map for impeaching President Donald Trump.

Ivanka Trump was lining up to support her famous father's complaint that he is being treated unfairly by a partisan "witch hunt."

Martha Jefferson Randolph, the daughter to whom Thomas Jefferson wrote, played a role that was remarkably similar to that of Ivanka in today's White House.

Her husband, George Randolph, was elected governor of Virginia and she served as the state's first lady. After the death of her mother left Thomas Jefferson a widower, she served as a key adviser to her father and even lived in the White House at times.

The letter that Ivanka quoted was written in 1800 after Martha Jefferson Randolph wrote to complain that the statesman did not spend enough time with his family.
