Ivanka Trump congratulates Boris Johnson as next PM of United 'Kingston'

Ivanka Trump's unfortunate Twitter gaffe

Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka was left red-faced today after an unfortunate misspelling of United Kingdom as she offered her congratulations to new Tory leader Boris Johnson.

Ivanka Trump wrote: "Congratulations Boris Johnson on becoming the next Prime Minister of the United Kingston."

Ivanka, 37, who has 6.7m Twitter followers, faced ridicule over the unfortunate typo.

One person wrote online: "Kingdom or Kingston?"

Another quipped: "I’m 14 and can spell better than you . United Kingston!"

Another person wrote: "I love visiting the United Kingston where you can get a great cup of hot covfefe."

She later corrected the tweet.

President Trump wrote: "Congratulations to Boris Johnson on becoming the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He will be great!"

Mr Johnson vowed to “energise the country” this afternoon after winning the Tory leadership contest by a two-to-one landslide.

Boris Johnson to become PM: Politicians react

He beat rival Jeremy Hunt by 92,153 votes to 46,656 and will take over as Prime Minister tomorrow evening.

He pledged to work “flat out” and spoke of “a new era of the can-do spirit” in which Britain will awake from its Brexit torpor “like some slumbering giant”.
