Ivan Yates standing down from Newstalk's 'The Hard Shoulder' as he steps back from full time broadcasting

Ivan Yates is stepping down from full-time broadcasting at the end of the month.

The radio veteran and former Government Minister is moving home to Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, with his wife.

His replacement at Newstalk will be announced in the coming weeks.

It is unclear if he will continue to present The Tonight Show on Virgin Media.

A memo sent to Newstalk staff today read: "I am writing to inform you that Ivan Yates will be stepping down from his role as presenter of The Hard Shoulder at the end of the month.

"Ivan has decided to step back from full-time broadcasting and he and his wife are moving home to live in Enniscorthy.

"I would like to thank this opportunity to thank Ivan for the enormous contribution he has made to the success of the show and to Newstalk.

"We wish him the very best for the future and look forward to contributing to work with him in various guises across the station.

"We will announce his replacement on The Hard Shoulder in due course."
