Ivan Toney transfer wiggle room as Celtic target offered hope amid Brentford signing pursuit

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson hasn't ruled out in-demand Ivan Toney staying at London Road this summer.

The 24-year-old is a Celtic target but Brentford have reportedly had a bid of around £9m accepted for a player with only 12 months remaining on his contract.

It's understood Toney has designs of starring in the English Premier League but the Bees are trying desperately to land him the summer.

But Ferguson admits he isn't ruling out an extended stay despite landing Bristol Rovers standout Jonson Clarke-Harris this week.

Speaking to the Peterborough Telegraph, he said: "We have four excellent strikers, five if Ivan Toney stays, and they will all complement each other.”

Record Sport revealed the Premiership champions are huge admirers of Toney and him on several occasions over the past 12 months.

But Celtic spent £5million on Albian Ajeti earlier this month after Neil Lennon convinced the striker to leave West Ham.

Hoops coach Gavin Strachan worked closely with the player during their time together at Posh but appears likely Toney will head to the Championship with Brentford.

And a big money move for the 26-goal striker is good news for Newcastle who are set to be in the money thanks to their bumper 30 per cent sell-on fee.
