Ivan Toney transfer oath revealed as Celtic-linked striker 'wanted' by Champions League contenders

In-demand Ivan Toney is being considered as a RB Leipzig replacement for Chelsea-bound Timo Werner - according to Darragh MacAnthony.

The outspoken Peterborough owner revealed on social media that the Champions League quarter-finalists are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old in wake of his eye-catching 26-goal return last season.

His red-hot form has led to a string of admirers running the rule over him and Record Sport exclusively revealed earlier this year that Celtic were among the clubs watching intently.

But McAnthony's social media bombshell is only set to intensify the interest in a player Posh value at around £15m.

When asked who the big-hitter interested in Toney, MacAnthony offered a less-than subtle clue, saying: "From a club that owned NY and German club yes."

And that alert was quickly followed by director of football Barry Fry who revealed the player and the League One side have a transfer word of honour regarding his future.

He told Peterborough Today : “All five of us at a meeting to discuss players for next season (Fry, co-owners Darragh MacAnthony, Dr Jason Neale and Stewart Thompson, plus manager Darren Ferguson) agreed that Ivan would be sold, but only for the right price.

“If that doesn’t happen we will keep him and we will sell him in January.

“Obviously we expect him to go in the summer because his talent demands that clubs will bust a gut to get him, but we will see how it pans out. If he did go the money we would receive would get us through next season.

“We are currently working on replacements for Ivan and we might have to sign two players to replace him properly.”
