Ivan Toney transfer last chance as Celtic warned striker is 'close to signing for someone else'

Peterborough director of football Barry Fry has warned Celtic they are "running out of time" in their pursuit of Ivan Toney.

The outspoken Posh chief claims another club are on the verge of completing a deal for the free-scoring 24-year-old striker.

Record Sport revealed back in January that Toney was a key target and it's understood Celtic are his first choice when the time comes to leave London Road.

Brentford made an offer for the former Newcastle man but the Bees face a transfer rethink after playoff heartbreak against Fulham that ends their Premier League dream.

And Fry insists another side are poised to seal a deal for Toney and he revealed he is still awaiting a fresh offer from Celtic

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the 75-year-old said: "They (Celtic) are running out of time now.

"The lad is very close to signing for someone else in the next couple of days.

"Celtic would have been his preferred choice, but they are nowhere near it.

"I heard from Ivan's agent to say Celtic were coming back. That was Sunday evening after their first game.

"They had heard Celtic would be coming back, but I haven't heard anything."

Meanwhile, Albian Aljeti 's agent Arber Sakiri is playing it cool over where his client will be playing next season.

He said: “For the moment, there is nothing to say. He is still a player of West Ham.

“It is normal that we have some calls here and some calls there and people are talking about this.

“It is also normal that people are talking about something and some interest here or there, maybe that’s true. From our side, there is nothing to say.”
