Ivan Toney transfer intrigue as Rangers and Celtic linked striker subject of 'bid' from mystery club

In-demand Peterborough star Ivan Toney is the subject of a bid from a mystery club - according to the club's owner Darragh MacAnthony.

The candid Irishman has refused to reveal who is in for a player that the League One side value at £15M.

But that hefty estimate may be viewed as ambitious by some suitors with the 24-year-old only having one year remaining on his deal with Posh.

Record Sport   exclusively revealed in January that Celtic watched the 26-goal striker on more than once occasion.

The plot thickened earlier this month when the club's sporting director Barry Fry claimed he'd heard Rangers were also keen on the forward.

And now MacAnthony has lifted the lid on the level of interest of a player who is understood to be on RB Leipzig's signing radar.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: "Yes, there is interest/bids etc. Was to be expected. I will never confirm from which clubs."

That update comes after Fry confirmed last week that the player and club had an agreement that they would allow their star man to leave if an acceptable offer materialises.

Toney's future is set to be the subject of great debate this summer and speculation over a switch to Parkhead is only set to intensify with Gavin Strachan joining Celtic.

The Premiership champions' incoming coach was highly regarded by Peterborough's players and the 42-year-old will be able to give Neil Lennon an insight into the red-hot forward.
