"The manager has a lot of faith in him.
"However we must ensure that we retain the right balance of wages and we will see at the end of the season what happens with him."
Reports last week suggested Barca could let as many as 11 players go as part of a summer overhaul - including Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian is keen to stay and fight for his place but transfers could be on the cards for Samuel Umtiti, Thomas Vermaelen and Malcom, among others.
