IU QB Michael Penix will be a game-time decision for matchup with OSU

Indiana University’s quarterback Michael Penix is going to be a game-time decision as IU is set to play No. 6 Ohio State on Saturday. What’s odd is that Penix didn’t appear injured in IU’s clobbering of Easterrn Illinois.

Penix has had a good start to the season. He neared 330 yards in the team’s season-opener against Ball State. However, IU won that game by just ten but made much for it with a 52-0 victory over EIU.

The team may have to rely upon former starting QB Peyton Ramsey if Penix is a late scratch.

That said, IndyStar’s Zach Osterman first reported that head coach Tom Allen called Allen a gametime decision. He also noted that the Hoosiers’ leader is dealing with a short-term injury.

The Hoosiers’ chances were alway slim to pull off this upset, but this development may not shift them too much. Last season, Ramsey, the team’s current backup, threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns against Ohio State.

He was dominant and ended with an outstanding 128.5 passer rating. Ramsey almost completed the upset as the Hoosiers entered the fourth quarter down just nine points. They eventually lost by 23.

Whether it’s Ramsey or Penix leading the way, expect Ohio State to take care of business against Indiana in it’s first Big Ten action.
